Maria Cofer will drive Abacus Racing’s No. 57 midget car, with primary sponsorship from Indy Fuel.
INDIANAPOLIS — Abacus Racing recently announced that the #57 car driven by Maria Cofer at the annual USAC National Midget Series event in Indianapolis on August 3-4 will be primarily sponsored by Indy Fuel.
The Indy Fuel is an ECHL minor hockey team that began play in the 2014-2015 season.
The team is based in Indianapolis and is affiliated with the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL and the Rockford Ice Hogs of the AHL.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this announcement. When it comes to sports, I love hockey and I love racing. To be able to combine them for this event is very special,” said Brent Cox, team manager for Abacus Racing.
Larry McQueary, President and COO of Indy Fuel, said, “We are delighted to partner with Brent and Abacus Racing in this sponsorship. Being based in Indianapolis, our team has always had a racing theme behind it.
“Being a sponsor for the team at this event is special, and there are other elements of sponsorship that we are excited about. It’s a full program with more announcements to come.
Macdoel, Calif., a native of Cofer, will be behind the wheel at the BC39 event. “Brent has been talking about it for a while. I know both parties have worked hard to come up with a program that works for both parties and it will be fun to be a part of it,” Cofer said.
Other sponsors of car #57 include Cox, Beckman, Goss & Company; Indy Custom Stone; Don Smock Auctions; Viva Tia Maria; Premier 47 – Indy Steakhouse; Chernoff cosmetic surgeons; Drexel interiors; O’Reilly’s Irish Bar and Restaurant; Laura Kopetsky Tri-Axis; and Carrington Homes.
Cofer will drive alongside Xfinity driver Sheldon Creed who is making his midget debut at this event.
Creed’s sponsors and livery will be announced soon.
