Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit investigating double homicide in Hinton
Alberta RCMP Major Crimes have now laid charges in connection with a double homicide in Hinton.
Robert Keith Major (53) of Hinton, has been charged with two counts of 2sd degree murder and 1 count of indignity towards human remains. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court for the first time on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 10 a.m. in Edson Provincial Court.
Investigators learned that Robert Major lived in the same apartment complex as the 24-year-old victim and her 16-month-old child. No other link has been identified between the victims and the perpetrator and the police are not looking for any other suspects in this case.
Autopsies are taking place at the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office today September 18 and tomorrow September 19, 2021. This tragic loss of life is incredibly difficult for everyone involved, especially the families of the victims. The family have requested confidentiality for the bereavement at this time and out of respect for the family’s wishes, the names of the deceased will not be released by the RCMP.
CONTEXT
Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit investigating double homicide in Hinton
At approximately 6 p.m. on September 16, 2021, Hinton RCMP responded to a report of the disappearance of a 24-year-old woman and her 16-month-old toddler who were last seen in Hinton.
Hinton RCMP, with assistance from Alberta RCMP Major Crimes, investigated this event. The investigation continues in the Hinton area and the RCMP can now confirm that the mother and child have since been found deceased.
On September 17, 2021, the Alberta RCMP Major Crime Division arrested a 53-year-old man in Hinton in connection with this investigation. He remains in detention for the moment.
There is no risk to the public at this time.
