The Estherville-Lincoln Central women’s basketball team, ranked 4th in Class 3A, defeated Storm Lake 64-12 and the Men’s Midget team went on to complete a sweep with a 51-48 victory.

In the girls’ game, the Midgets took a 41-8 halftime lead and netted the first basket of the 3rd quarter to make it a running clock. Kaitlyn Tendal led three double-digit players with 21 points. The Tornadoes were led by Adeya Yanga’s six points.

ELC is now 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference. Storm Lake is now 3-8 this year and 0-4 in the league.

The Storm Lake boys led by 15 points in the first half of their game and led 31-20 at halftime. The Midgets, however, outscored Storm Lake 18-8 in the 3rd quarter, then scored 3 points to start the 4th quarter to take their first lead of the game at 41-39, a lead they would never give up. ELC led 46-39 with five minutes left only for Storm Lake to follow a 7-1 run to come close to 47-46 with 3:30 to go. The Midgets did just enough to score a big road victory, raising their overall record to 8-2, and now to 3-1 in the Conference of Lakes. They were led in scoring by Owen Larson’s 14 points.

The Tornadoes were led by Sam Slight’s 17s as they fell to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Storm Lake will play again Friday night at Hull-Western Christian, these games will be broadcast on Mix 101.7 KAYL.
