The fifth edition of the Fred Rannard, Sr. Open Wheel Classic returns for the weekend in a two-day event on September 10-11 at Agassiz Speedway. This race weekend only offers cars with open wheels.
“We’re really looking forward to this year’s race,” said Fred Rannard, Jr. “Everyone did a great job last year to make it happen, but with everything going on in the world, we were subject to so many restrictions it just wasn’t nearly the same. We expect lots of cars, big crowds and lots of fun on both nights this year.
Three classes of cars will burn the quarter mile: Sprint / Super Modified, Dwarf and Midget cars.
This year another stellar lineup of racers including reigning midget Open Wheel Classic champion and two-time midget champion Agassiz Troy Globe. Other featured racers include Hornet track record holder Murray Jones of Chilliwack, 17, two-time mini-stock raching champion Levi Klatt of Langley and Dwarf Car and former record holder Rick Taylor of Penticton.
This freewheeling event is held in memory of Fred Rannard, Sr., who passed away in 2015 at the age of 92. Rannard was a strong supporter of auto racing in the Lower Mainland. Among the many hats he wore over the course of his long life, he was the public relations spokesperson for Langley Speedway in the late 1970s and Skagit Speedway from 1980 to 1993.
