The percentage of positive lab tests went from four to six percent within a week. The seven-day infection rate, the number of new cases per week, has nearly tripled since early August to 48.8 per 100,000 population. Some German citizens were injured while on vacation.

The number of infections is rising sharply, especially among young people. In the 15-34 age group, the incidence over seven days is around 86. And in people over 60, who are often fully vaccinated, that still amounts to 10 infections per 100,000.

According to the RKI, there is still a significant health risk for Germans who have not been vaccinated or who have not been fully vaccinated. For people who are totally contraindicated, the risk is classified as “medium”.

The Institute of Health notes that a similar increase in the number of infections occurred in late September and early October last year. But in 2020, there was no immunization protection, it was claimed.

In total, around 64% of the German population has received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine. More than 58% have already been vaccinated.
