When I was looking for a good grill to ignite my summer this year, I came across some really good options. As someone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen and has made cooking my life for about 15 years, it has always been important to have the right tools to work with when cooking and grilling. Funny enough, I came across Kalamazoo Grills, which is made by Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet, but was absolutely floored when I saw the prices. I wanted to support a local business and it was cool that we had our own grill, but it’s clearly not for the occasional grill.
I’ve seen their grills cost anywhere from $ 6,000 for a Kamado grill, up to over $ 33,000 for a Gaucho grill. Don’t get me wrong these things look AMAZING, and if I was cooking with one in a restaurant I’m sure I would have a blast. But I wanted to know, “Are they worth it for that much money?” “
What are people saying about Kalamazoo grills?
In 2013, someone from Forbes who got to test one of these grills called it “the Rolls Royce of barbecues”, saying:
So my first thought was: what could this one do to make it worth as much as a new car? The answer is simple – it does everything better. Three weeks later, the grill is put back on and returns to his birthplace in Michigan, and I miss that.
Honestly, I think if a grill is as expensive as a luxury car, it has to be of the highest quality. But anything in the 4-digit realm is A LOT out of my league. These grills seem like a good idea for anyone with a rich taste or for an upscale restaurant, but they are clearly aimed at those who can lose $ 17,000 without thinking twice, which is very rare.
Other grills made in western Michigan
There are actually many grill companies in Michigan that also make premium grills. Holland is home to Grilla Grills, which has many smokers, is expensive, but only above the $ 1,000 mark.
Marshall-based Grillworks also ships premium wood-burning grills, which also range between $ 3,000 and $ 33,000.
Turns out there is some serious grilling in western Michigan.
