Long Beach Police Department officers will call shopping, serve meals, and maybe serve a beer or two on Wednesday, September 29 at Belmont Shore.

Special Olympics Southern California will be the beneficiary of the inaugural Mega Tip-A-Cop event, which will take place at five Second Street restaurants and one store from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The Belmont Shore Business Association helped organize the event.

Special Olympics Southern California, headquartered in Long Beach, serves approximately 35,000 athletes with special needs in the region. Limited in-person activities and training resumed in July this year, with hopes that the Summer Olympics event can return next year.

Starting at 5:00 p.m. on September 29, agents will be behind the register at Blue Windows, 5276 E. Second St. Others will be behind the bar serving customers at tables at these five restaurants:

Domenico Italian Restaurant, 5339 E. Second St .; George’s Greek Cafe, 5316 E. Second St .; Legends Restaurant and Sports Bar, 5236 E. Second St .; Pub & Grill Quinn, 200 avenue Nieto; and Rance’s Chicago Pizza, 5258 E. Second St.

People don’t have to go out to eat to participate in fundraising. Donations are accepted online at www.sosc.org/lbmegatac. All proceeds from the evening will be donated to Special Olympics Southern California.
