The 2022 National Minor Box Lacrosse Championships will take place next week and many members of the Ridge Meadows Burrards Association will be representing their province.
The event will take place August 15-20 at the Langley Events Center and will feature the 12U and 14U men’s teams and the 14U women’s team.
The BC 12U men’s squad has a strong local contingent that includes Silas Gagnon, Dawson Malawsky, Tristan Windsor and backup goaltender William Nichols.
Gagnon was named team captain. The boys were part of a pee wee Burrards team that won provincial championships last month.
The 14U boys will be coached by Rob Williams, who is also the head coach of the Maple Ridge Burrards WLA team. Cody Todd was also selected to play for the team.
The 14U women’s team has two players on the final roster in Mya Jakovljevich and Ashlyn Laity, and alternates Paige Downey and Stella Mulcahy.
The National Minor Box Lacrosse Championships were last held in 2019, with the past two years canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This past year in 2019, BC won silver in the boys’ Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget divisions, while the girls won gold at the Bantam and Midget levels.
The 12U boys will kick off on August 16 when they face Team Manitoba at 10:30 a.m. The 14U boys will start at 9 a.m. against Team Nova Scotia, and the girls team will start at 12 p.m. against Nova Scotia.
