Sun Prairie- Wally Ziesch, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Saturday September 11, 2021. He was born in Madison on February 14, 1932, the son of Henry and Lillian (Anderson) Ziesch. Wally grew up in Madison before moving to the family farm. In 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army and served overseas during the Korean War until his honorable release in 1953. On July 3, 1959, Wally married Ede Degner at Little Brown Church in Nashua. , Iowa. They went through 62 years of marriage, which included a lot, including a trip to Florida to sit in the sun. Wally worked for Madison Sand and Gravel for 42 years until his retirement in 1995. He played fast-field baseball and softball for several years in Madison, DeForest and Sun Prairie. Wally was an accomplished golfer, registering a hole-in-one and loved to play with the Hummers, friends and family. He enjoyed spending time and hunting with his brothers. Some of his greatest accomplishments have come from bowling. Wally was inducted into the Madison Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1998. He won a 300 game at Arcadia Lanes in Fort. Atkinson in the Southern WI Traveling League. In 2010, Wally attended his 50th national USBC tournament with his family as teammates. He was passionate about sports, particularly UW women’s volleyball, Brewers, Packers, and Midget and Sprint car racing. Wally loved to take care of his family and watch them grow up, his favorite was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wally is survived by two children, Cher (John) Breunig and Doug Ziesch; two grandchildren, Beau (Shannon) Breunig and Bobbi (Chris) Getter; five great-grandchildren, Bryce and Shea Breunig, Elin, Dylan and Carlin Getter; two brothers, Bob and John (Barb) Ziesch; sister, Joyce McElmurry; brother-in-law, Bud Degner; and nine nieces and nephews. His parents died before him; beloved wife, Ede; sisters-in-law, Sybil Ziesch and Thelma Degner; brother-in-law, Gary McElmurry; and two nieces, Diane Laes and Dianne Hatzung. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie. Interment will follow, with full military honors, at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens. Friends and relatives are invited to a post-funeral lunch at Prairie Lanes in Sun Prairie.
