Applications can be submitted through the Town of Thorold website and will close at the end of March.
It’s that time of year again as Thorold’s “Runway of Recognition” seeks new inductees into its hall of fame.
“We have five official inductees and then we have a bunch of secondary awards,” Regional Councilor Tim Whalen, who is also recognition track chairman, said in an interview with ThoroldToday.
Anyone who has ever meant something to the sport at Thorold, whether as an athlete, team or builder, is eligible for nomination.
“The more the merrier,” Whalen says. “Some years, we had the choice between 35 and 40 people. Right now we have about 25.
After nominations close at the end of March, the committee will select new inductees who will then be recognized at an awards ceremony in June.
“Unless we have another roadblock because of COVID, that would be June 6,” Whalen says. “That’s the tentative date right now.”
Last year’s ceremony honored athletes such as hockey player Errol McKibbon and the 1970-71 Thorold Midget Hockey Team, as well as many others.
Whalen says it’s important to recognize those who put Thorold on the map through sports.
“It does something to further the benefits of the sport in Thorold,” he says. “Whether as a builder or as an athlete, we look at both aspects, to be recognized for all the good deeds you have done to the town of Thorold.”
Applications must be submitted online using the following form. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Whalen directly at (905) 227-1106.
