The Canadian Women’s Olympic Hockey Team features 2 games against the British Columbia Junior Men’s Teams

Canada’s women’s hockey team will play two games against men’s junior A teams in British Columbia next month.

The Women’s National Team, currently centralized in Calgary to prepare for the Beijing 2022 Olympics, will travel to face the Trail Smoke Eaters on October 4 and the Cranbrook Bucks on October 5.

Canada just won a women’s world championship on August 31 in Calgary, where the host nation edged the United States in overtime for gold.

Twenty-six skaters are trying to get 20 spots on the Olympic list.

Three goalies have already been named on the Beijing side: Ann-Renee Desbiens, Emerance Maschmeyer and Kristen Campbell.

Women are used to a regular schedule of games against men’s midget triple A clubs as part of their Olympic preparation, but games against Junior A teams are rarer.

Goalkeeper Shannon Szabados made 52 saves in Canada’s 3-2 win over the AJHL Calgary Canucks on December 5, 2009.

Canada split two games of the Maritime Junior Hockey League in September 2019, when the women lost 4-2 to the Valley Wildcats and beat the Pictou County Crushers 4-1.

“We are grateful to Trail and Cranbrook for their willingness to be a part of our training early in our season,” Hockey Canada Director of Operations Gina Kingsbury said in a statement Monday.

“The level of competition we expect is crucial in our journey and we look forward to introducing our athletes to hockey fans from both communities. “

Fans can purchase tickets and attend both games subject to meeting all provincial COVID-19 requirements.
