Thomas Richard (“TR”) Stoker, 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday August 29, 2021.
He was a dear friend and will be sadly missed by many. A US Navy veteran, he was married to Avis Olson (1956-81) and was the loving father of Lorrie Trotter, Richard Stoker (Denise) and Katherine Harrison. He gave his children the gift of a life fully lived. A favorite quote was “Just stay clear and keep an eye on the ball,” WC Fields. Entrepreneur, he created and managed several companies. He admitted one of them to the New York Stock Exchange at the age of 32. Over the years, he enjoyed ski jumping, downhill skiing, deer hunting, and helped invent tailgating in Badger football games during a twenty-eight consecutive losing streak. He loved attending horse races and watched the Secretariat win the 1973 Kentucky Derby. He loved racing and competed in the Indy 500 fifty times in a row! He helped negotiate his son’s racing team when his son was struggling to make the Indy 500. Additionally, he attended midget races at Angell Park Speedway for nearly 80 years. Over the past twenty-nine years he has participated in a golf tournament called “The AASSters” with his son and two friends, donning the “Green Jacket” seven times. The tournaments were mostly held in Wisconsin, although the group did venture to Ireland twice to play. Thanks Jean and Jim! From the age of 75, he participated in the NBC Golf Channel Amtour. He had the time of his life and made dozens of new friends while participating in the best courses across the country.
He was brother of Patricia Semrad (Fran) and Bill Stoker, grandfather of Nichole Miller and Jesika Miller, stepfather of Johnelle Jones, great grandfather of Luke Hanson and Gavin Hanson, and had several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by parents Villmonte (“Bill”) and Pauline Stoker, sister Carlene Steele, brother-in-law Bud Steele, sister-in-law Marion Stoker and son-in-law JC Trotter.
A private service will take place, with plans for a future gathering (“The Legend”) for family / friends once COVID subsides.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
