What’s wrong with this Taiwanese bubble tea thing? It sounds hideous, but I admit that I have never tried. Just recently a friend of mine told me she thought it tasted like a candle. Besides, I have never tried to bite a piece of candle flavored or not.
And what are those little round things floating on top? You know what they look like, don’t you? Also known as Boba Tea, the drink consists of tea, milk, ice, and those hideous tapioca pearls.
Little nasty things! The drink is shaken like a martini and served with a fatty straw to accommodate the tapioca balls that cluster at the bottom of the cup.
Listen, maybe this works for you, but personally I DON’T WANT TO CHEW MY DRINK! Call me the old fashioned way. Think about it, you are relaxing in your favorite cafe enjoying your bubble tea drink, and you suck your straw and have one of those tapioca things fly in your mouth. Ewwww!
These “pearls” are boiled in huge bubbling tubs and steeped in sweet caramelized syrup for hours until they are ready to be dipped in your bubble tea. But, I have an even better idea, instead of little fluffy tapioca pearls, how about dropping little balls of milk chocolate in my Boba tea which I renamed “ChocoTea”.
On the positive side, this adventurous drink comes in different flavors such as chocolate and vanilla. Moreover, you should know that fluffy tapioca balls are valuable in Taiwan.
