William J. Angelo, 77, of Minersville, died Saturday morning at Providence Place, Pottsville.
Born in the canton of Cass, he was the son of the late Santino and the late Sophie Keyso Angelo.
He graduated in 1961 from Nativity BVM High School. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Holy Family Parish, Minersville. He was a retired equipment operator and mechanic for the International Union of Operating Engineers.
Bill’s kind heart and witty nature touched the lives of so many in the community of Minersville. For nearly three decades, Bill was an elected member of the Minersville Borough Council. He also served with the Minersville Civic Club, the Good Will Fire Company, and was very active in youth sports for over 25 years, coaching Little League baseball and midget football. He was a member of the Sunny Rod Gun Club and also attended the Malvern Retreat Home for 52 years.
Her heartwarming spirit and generosity were best captured in her role of âspreading the magic of Christmasâ. For decades, Bill volunteered with various local organizations as he brought smiles to generations of children throughout the Minersville community.
When Bill wasn’t spending his time with his family or giving back to the community, he was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed trips to his Sullivan County cabin with the guys, many of whom he coached over the years.
Whether you hang out with Bill regularly or bump into him once in a while, many will remember his wise and humorous words that would make anyone laugh.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Emma Paulosky; and two brothers, Santino and Vincent Angelo.
He is survived by his wife, the ex Jean Bednar; one son, Mark, Plains; one brother, Frank Angelo, Cass Twp .; one sister, Maria Mason, Minersville; one sister-in-law, Sylvia Angelo, Minersville; one brother-in-law, Robert Bednar and his wife, June, Pottsville; nieces and nephews.
Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated at 11 am Friday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 539 Sunbury St., Minersville. Reverend Adam Sedar will officiate. Relatives and friends can call from 8:30 a.m. until service time on Friday morning at church. Interment will be in the Schuylkill Memorial Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven. The family would prefer keepsakes in the form of contributions in memory of William at the Minersville Library, 220 S. Fourth St., Minersville, or at the Malvern Retreat House, 315 S. Warren Ave., Malvern, PA 19355. Contributions will be accepted at the funeral home. Arrangements are made by Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, Minersville.
